Hash Generator
Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512, and BLAKE2 hashes instantly. Perfect for security and data integrity.
Hash Functions Guide
Hash functions convert input data into a fixed-size string of bytes. The output, called a hash value or digest, is unique to the input. This tool generates hashes for security, data integrity, and authentication.
Hash Types:
🔴 MD5 (Deprecated)
128-bit hash. Produces 32 hex characters. No longer secure for cryptographic use.
🟡 SHA-1 (Deprecated)
160-bit hash. Produces 40 hex characters. Vulnerable to collision attacks.
🟢 SHA-256
256-bit hash. Produces 64 hex characters. Secure and widely used in blockchain.
🟢 SHA-512
512-bit hash. Produces 128 hex characters. Highest security level.
Use Cases:
- Data Integrity: Verify files haven't been modified
- Password Storage: Hash passwords before storing (always use salt!)
- Blockchain: SHA-256 is used in Bitcoin and Ethereum
- Digital Signatures: Verify authenticity of documents
- Version Control: Git uses SHA-1 for commit IDs
Important Notes:
- ✓ Same input always produces same hash
- ✓ Different inputs produce different hashes
- ✗ Cannot reverse a hash (one-way function)
- ⚠️ MD5 and SHA-1 should not be used for new projects
- ⚠️ Always use salting when hashing passwords
